BENGALURU: A 50-year-old farmer was killed after his bike collided with a KSRTC bus at Beerasandra village near the Bengaluru Rural DC office on NH-207 on Thursday morning.
Ramesh B, a resident of Bhairadenahalli, was on his way to Doddaballapur to sell flowers from a farm in Ramanathapura village when the bus hit his bike at 10.30am, police said. Ramesh is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Police said the bus was being driven on the wrong lane. It was supposed to head towards Devanahalli on the left lane, but driver Manjunath was moving on the right. He was arrested. In the FIR, cops named the project manager of a private construction firm - contracted by the highway development authorities - for not putting up signboards during road work.
Locals, including friends and relatives of Ramesh, staged a protest and refused to shift his body from the accident spot for over 3 hours. Only after cops promised to take strict action against the officials responsible for not erecting signboards during the ongoing construction work, the protesters relented.
