Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court on Thursday dismissed the state government’s contempt petition against Gurjar leaders accused of blocking roads and rail tracks during peak of their quota agitation in 2007-2008.
The single bench of Mahender Kumar Goyal dismissed the petition on the plea of the state government represented by advocate general M S Singhvi.
Based on a petition by one Lakhan Singh Meena in 2007, the high court Jaipur bench passed an interim order directing the Gujjar leaders to open the roads and rails for citizens and the state government to comply with the order.
On their failure to comply with the court order, the state had filed a contempt petition against Col Kirori Singh Bainsla (who died last year) and other 27 members of the Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti in 2007 and then in 2008.
The HC had later taken suo ootu cognisance against then chief secretary DC Samant also in the matter.
