Anil joins BJP: ‘Deeply pained’ father Antony says son’s decision ‘wrong’

Anil Antony, son of veteran Congress leader AK Antony, on Thursday joined BJP in presence of Union minister Piyush Goyal. Antony said that Anil's decision to join BJP was completely "wrong" and added: "I am deeply pained."

Braving his tears, the former defence minister said: "Till the day I die, I will be a Congressman. This is the first and last time I have spoken about Anil's decision. I will not talk about it anymore."

While praising Modi, Anil said: "Every Congress worker believes they are working for a family. But I believe I am working for the country." Anil had quit Congress in January after critcising BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots, taking a stand against his then party Congress.

Kerala Congress chief K Sudhakaran said Anil had not been given any party responsibilities and that his joining BJP was not a matter of concern for Congress.

"Today (Maundy Thursday) is the day of Judas (Iscariot) who betrayed Jesus Christ for a payment of 30 silver coins. Many such things will happen on that day. This (Anil joining BJP) should also be seen as such an incident," Sudhakaran told reporters here.
