Bhubaneswar: Odisha recorded a jump in Covid cases with 92 fresh infections detected in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases to 359 on Thursday. On Wednesday the number of fresh cases was 63 in the state. However, doctors said though a large number of people are suffering from flu and viral fever, very few are going for tests. They advised people with symptoms to wear masks at public places, take booster dose of vaccination and avoid self-medication.
According to sources, districts like Cuttack, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Khurda and Sambalpur have maximum number of Covid cases, and the number of infections may go up further in the coming days. “Odisha has a test positivity rate of 1.4% compared to the national average of 3.3%,” said Niranjan Mishra, director, public health. Currently, people suffering from Covid are showing flu-like symptoms that are self-limiting and treatable with symptomatic medication and there is hardly any hospitalisation.
People are showing many overlapping symptoms like fever, runny nose, cough, muscle pain, shortness of breath, sore throat and fatigue. However, there is mild severity. “Covid has passed the pandemic stage and become endemic now and is like any other seasonal flu. But it is always better to test so that we can keep a track on the virus and identify the kind of infection they have and help with appropriate treatment, said Dr Neeraj Mishra, a senior physician.
