HYDERABAD: Heavy rains lashed the city on Thursday, with several places such as Chikkadpally, Secunderabad and Musheerabad witnessing hailstorms accompanied with high windspeed.
Traffic flow took a hit owing to the rains and a Hanuman Jayanthi procession. The procession from Malakpet Yashoda Hospital, traversed Nalgonda X Roads, Malakpet Railway Station, Azampura before heading towards Chaderghat Rotary.
Traffic police were deployed to regulate traffic from Himayat Nagar X Road, Taj Mahal Hotel, Narayanaguda Flyover towards Crown Cafe, Narayanaguda.
According to the rainfall data furnished by Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Bansilalpet in the city recorded 45.3mm rainfall - second highest rainfall in the state after Kannaigudem village in Mulugu district which saw 84mm rainfall.
Other areas such as Musheerabad, Monda Market, Gudimalkapur, West Marredpally too saw intense rain ranging between 30mm to 40mm.
GHMC teams were deployed at various areas to tackle complaints pertaining to waterlogging and uprooted trees including in places such as Yousufguda, Jubilee Hills, Serilingampally Karwan, and Mehdipatnam.
Traffic was disrupted at Tadban area owing to an uprooted tree. The Secunderabad Cantonment Board's health and sanitation wing was quick to cut the uprooted tree and clear traffic.
Overall, Hyderabad district recorded a cumulative average of 8.6mm rainfall which is more than the previous day's 4.3mm rains. Other districts in the state such as Kumuram Bheem, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Mulugu, Kamareddy saw light rains. Power supply was disrupted in certain areas of the Secunderabad Cantonment such as Defence Colony, P&T Colony, R&D Defence Colony, Sripuri Colony among other areas. "Water logging areas have been cleared," SCB superintendent M Devender told TOI.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange alert for Friday in Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Sangareddy, Warangal, Adilabad, Rangareddy and 13 other areas in the state. IMD also issued a yellow alert from April 8 to April 11 for districts including Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri. IMD officials noted that lightning, hailstorm and gusty wings are very likely to occur at isolated places on Friday.
