Maharashtra govt must take Covid-19 situation seriously, apprise citizens, says Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar on Friday said the state government should look into the Covid-19 situation immediately, as cases have been on the rise and apprise citizens. As per the state health department, Maharashtra had on Thursday recorded 803 fresh coronavirus cases and three fatalities that raised the tally of infections to 81,47,673, which includes 1,48,454 deaths.

New Covid cases cross 800 in Maharashtra for first time since October

The state witnessed a surge in its daily Covid-19 tally on Thursday, recording a jump of 41% compared to Wednesday. New detections rose to 803, crossing the 800 mark for the first time since October.

Three Covid deaths were recorded, with one each reported from the city, Thane, and Jalna, taking the state's toll to 1,48,454 since the pandemic arrived in 2020.With 19 new admissions, the total number of patients in city hospitals rose to 100.

Airfares from Mumbai soar for next 2 long weekends

The month of April with its generous list of public holidays has seen domestic airfares shoot up for travel during the coming two long weekends. The cheapest to-and-fro fare for the April 7 to 9 Easter weekend for Mumbai-Srinagar, for instance, was Rs 52,000, Dehradun Rs 34,000 and Kochi Rs 13,000 on Thursday. For the next long weekend of April 14 to 16, the fares are "cheaper" for Mumbai-Srinagar at Rs 31,800 and Dehradun at Rs 14,600 while Kochi is unchanged at Rs 13,000.

Sharad Pawar opposes NDA’s plan to import dairy products

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday opposed NDA government’s move to import dairy products, saying it will be totally unacceptable as import of butter and ghee will have adverse impact on income of domestic milk producers.

“Dairy farmers have recently come out of the Covid crisis... in such circumstances, decision to import dairy products will severely impede revival process of the dairy sector,” Pawar said.

In a letter to Union minister for animal husbandry, dairying & fisheries, Puurushottam Rupala, Pawar said he shall be happy if the ministry deters itself from any decision to import milk products.

Madarsa teacher held for molesting teen girl on board train

A madarsa teacher was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a teen girl on board an express train, a railway police official said in Maharashtra's Thane district. The victim was travelling in the Singhad Express from Pune to Mumbai when the 29-year-old accused, hailing from Sitamarhi in Bihar, allegedly took videos and photographs of her and also touched her inappropriately, Kalyan railway police senior inspector Mukesh Dhage said.

Angry over a hair cut, a 13-year-old boy allegedly jumped to death from a high-rise in Bhayandar area near here, police said on Thursday. Thane: 2 commuters blocking local train door thrashed by passengers

A group of passengers thrashed two commuters after they blocked the door of a local train at the busy Diva station in Thane district which comes under the Mumbai suburban network, officials said on Thursday. A video of the incident, which took place earlier this week, went viral on social media platforms. The clip, shot by some passengers, showed the ugly brawl when a local train heading towards Karjat stopped at Diva station.In the video, some people on a platform were seen pulling out two commuters standing at the door of the train. The angry people kicked and thrashed the two commuters and also hit them with shoes, while some passengers were seen trying to save them.
