BENGALURU: The high court on Thursday extended till April 13 the stay order in the ongoing probe against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar vis-a-vis an FIR registered in relation to a disproportionate assets case.
The court also adjourned the hearing on a separate petition filed by him challenging the September 25, 2019 order passed by the state government issuing consent to the CBI to proceed in the matter. There is already an interim protection not to take any coercive measures against him.
In his petition challenging the FIR, Shivakumar claimed that as per the high court’s earlier order, the CBI could not have initiated coercive measures against him and added that there is no sanction obtained under section 17 A of the PC Act to prosecute him.
The CBI had registered the FIR on October 3, 2020 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, following a consent accorded by the government to investigate the matter. The CBI claimed that between April 1, 2013 and April 30, 2018, Shivakumar and his family were in possession of around Rs 74.8 crore assets for which he had failed to show proper documents.
