Ranchi: The special PMLA court on Thursday rejected the discharge petitions filed by advocate Rajiv Kumar and trader Amit Agrawal in connection with the case related to seizure of Rs 50 lakh from the former by Kolkata police on July 31.
The court had reserved its order on March 27 after hearing both the sides. During the argument, the Enforcement Directorate’s special public prosecutor Shiv Kumar had said that both persons, including the one who gave bribe and the one who received it, are liable for prosecution under the PMLA Act. The court has fixed April 19 as the date for framing of charges against the two accused.
It may be stated here that Agrawal had allegedly called Kumar to Kolkata to hand over the money for getting his name removed from a public interest litigation filed in Jharkhand high court. The local police had caught Kumar with the bag containing the currency. The ED has investigated the money laundering aspect of the case.
