NIT student attack: Barak groups call for action
Silchar: The All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) and Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha have separately demanded a high-level probe and strict action against all those involved in assaulting a student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar recently.
A fourth-semester student of the department of computer science, NIT, Siddhant Paitya, was allegedly subjected to ragging and beaten up by 18 senior students inside the institution last Friday. Siddhant was allegedly bullied by the attackers regarding his mother tongue and the place where he comes from. Siddhant, who was severely injured in that incident, is under treatment at a hospital at present. An FIR was lodged by Siddhant’s father at Ghungoor police outpost based on which police began an investigation.
The chief adviser to ACKHSA, Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, condemned the attack on Siddhant and demanded stern action against all those involved in the incident. “Hooliganism and violence in an educational institution will not be tolerated,” Purkayastha stated.
The ACKHSA adviser also expressed his dissatisfaction with the NIT authorities saying the incident has raised serious questions on the institute’s role.
