A chilling incident took place in Haryana’s Sonipat after a man allegedly shot dead his girlfriend after calling her from Canada. The accused even buried her girlfriend’s body in a farmhouse in June last year which has now been recovered by police officials.

According to the reports, the accused, identified as Monika, called his girlfriend, Monika, from Canada on January 22. Before visiting her boyfriend’s place in Sonipat, she went to meet her parents in Rohtak.

On not returning for a few days, Monika’s parents filed a missing complaint of their daughter at the Ganaur Police Station. However, the police failed to solve the case so they handed it to Bhiwani CIA-2.

On April 2, Sunil was apprehended by the Bhiwani Crime Branch team in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh for abducting and killing Monika. During the interrogation, Sunil confessed to his crime that he had killed Monika and buried her body in a farmhouse in June 2022 under the influence of alcohol.

Police on Wednesday recovered the skeleton remains of Monika from the 10 feet deep pit in Sunil’s farmhouse after almost nine months.

Police have now apprehended Sunil and are trying to ascertain the reason behind this gruesome killing. Police also said that the accused has several cases registered against him, including an attempt to murder.

Despite Monika’s aunt filing a kidnapping case against Sunil at Ganaur police station in Sonipat on November 2022, the police failed to take any action. It was only after Monika’s relatives brought up the matter to the attention of the Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij that the case was investigated.

Home Ministry recommends CBI probe against Oxfam India

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday recommended a CBI investigation against Oxfam India for allegedly violating the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, reports said.

According to reports quoting sources, the Union Home Ministry has purportedly found that even after registering under the FCRA, which bars foreign transfers, Oxfam India continued to transfer foreign contributions to various entities.

As per sources, a survey carried out by the Income Tax Department uncovered multiple emails which revealed that Oxfam India was allegedly planning to circumvent FCRA provisions by routing funds to other FCRA-registered associations or through the for-profit consultancy route.

They said that the survey also purportedly “exposed” Oxfam India as a possible instrument of foreign policy of foreign organisations or entities, which have liberally funded the organisation over the years, they said.

The sources further said that Oxfam India, which is registered to carry out social activities, allegedly routed funds to the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) through its associates and employees in the form of commission and following the survey’s damning revelations, the Union Home Ministry has recommended a CBI probe into the affairs of the organization.

A report quoting an anonymous official said that Oxfam India continued to transfer foreign contributions to various entities even after coming into force of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Act, 2020 which prohibits such transfers.

The Indian arm of the global NGO, Oxfam India works for the rights of minorities and the downtrodden like the Adivasis, Dalits, Muslims, besides also batting for women’s rights and creating awareness about girl education across India.

On December 2021, Oxfam India, which was registered under the FCRA for receiving foreign funds for carrying out social activities, was denied renewal of its FCRA license by the home ministry.

Oxfam India has not responded to the development yet.

The Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government is running the state like the notorious Mumbai underworld of yesteryears, senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has alleged.

Talking to reporters, Sanjay Raut, a close associate of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleged that criminals and the corrupt are being protected and shielded by the government.

Raut also claimed that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis are “running their gangs” like how the underworld used to operate from pockets of Thane and Mumbai during those infamous years.

Sanjay Raut claimed the current Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis dispensation is not a government but operates much like how the Mumbai underworld used to back in the day.

On Supreme Court junking the plea by 14 political parties that claimed “misuse” of central agencies against political opponents, Raut said the way BJP is celebrating the apex court’s order shows how ecstatic the saffron party is over the ruling.

Raut while claiming that the ED (Enforcement Directorate) and CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) are being “misused” against political opponents, asked why there’s been no action taken against those who have been “cleansed in the BJP washing machine”—a popular reference by BJP’s opponents who claim that politicians who join the saffron party are often absolved or get a reprieve from probe agencies.

In related news, a man was arrested by the Mumbai Police last week for issuing death threats to Sanjay Raut and threatened to kill the politician like Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who was shot dead last year.

The accused, identified as Rahul Talekar, was apprehended by the Pune and Mumbai Police from the Kharadi area, hours after Raut and his brother MLA Sunil Raut filed a threat complaint at the Kanjurmarg Police Station.

During the interrogation, Talekar, who has no criminal records, claimed that he sent threatening messages while he was inebriated.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the suspect may have issued the threat under the influence of alcohol and assured people that strict action will be taken against him.
