Thiruvananthapuram: AICC general secretary
Tariq Anwar has said discipline applies to all party leaders and that they should not cross the boundaries of discipline while speaking to the media. He was reacting to the ongoing controversies between the party MPs from the state and the KPCC leadership. Tariq Anwar who was in the state capital however could not meet the MPs for discussion as they were in New Delhi attending the parliament session.
Tariq Anwar said that he would speak with the MPs to sort out their issues and grievances with the state leadership. "The only request to the senior leaders is that show some restrain while speaking to the media. Discipline applies to all. The Congress gives much importance to inner-party democracy. But it should not come to the public forum,’’ he said.
The AICC general secretary said all the issues can be sorted out through discussions and hence he would be speaking to the MPs. He said he is also ready to meet them when he returns to New Delhi. The KPCC executive committee meeting held on Tuesday witnessed a scathing criticism against the MPs, K Muraleedharan and Shashi Tharoor, for criticizing the state leadership openly before the media. There were also suggestions that the KPCC leadership should complain against them to the AICC leadership.
However, K Muraleedharan had come out strongly against the executive committee meeting since the party MPs had asked the state leadership to postpone this meeting. The MPs had said that they would not be able to attend the meeting due to the parliament session. Now the MPs are of the view that the state leadership has convened the meeting only to criticize them.
‘Disqualifying Rahul shows how BJP will destroy democracy’The BJP government, which is dividing the country in the name of religion, has now shown how it is going to destroy democracy also through the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha, said AICC general secretary Tariq Anwar on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the UDF satyagraha in front of Raj Bhavan to protest against Gandhi’s disqualification, Anwar said Congress would go to any extent to protect democracy in the country and will not relent from agitation till the BJP government withdrew from the undemocratic decision of disqualification.
Opposition leader V D Satheesan, who spoke on the occasion, said the BJP-led government at the Centre is providing all support for serious financial frauds. “If anyone is criticizing the Prime Minister then it becomes treason or anti-national,” he said.
