GURGAON: Eight people suffered injuries after their SUV overturned on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway on Tuesday afternoon. Police said two passengers — an 80-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl — were critically injured.
The mishap took place when the driver of the Hyundai Venue was trying to avoid hitting a stray dog.
All eight occupants of the SUV have been admitted to SGT hospital in Budhera. Police said Manoj Kumar (40), his wife, their two children and a family friend were returning from Rohtak to Palwal when the accident took place near the Farrukhnagar toll plaza on the Expressway around 3pm on Tuesday.
The SUV overturned and the elderly woman was flung out of the SUV, suffering head injuries. The legs of the teenager were crushed, while the others suffered minor injuries as the airbags were deployed, according to cops.
A senior police officer said toll plaza employees alerted police about the accident. A team soon reached the spot. “The cops, along with passersby, pulled the injured persons out from the SUV and rushed them to hospital,” he said. Sunil Kumar, a relative of the victims, said: “We don’t want to pursue any legal action against anyone. We are glad that most of them are safe.” Police said they haven’t filed an FIR as no complaint has been received. “The victim told police that it was his mistake. The family doesn’t want to file a case.”
