- Anil Antony, the son of veteran Congress leader and former Union minister AK Antony, has joined the BJP today in Delhi
Anil Antony, the son of veteran Congress leader and former Union minister AK Antony, on Thursday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of Union ministers Piyush Goyal and V Muraleedharan.
The development comes days after Anil Antony resigned from all Congress posts after differences with the party over his tweets against the controversial BBC documentary -- "India: The Modi Question" -- on the 2002 Gujarat riots.
After joining the BJP, Anil Antony said, “Many of the Congress leaders believe that their duty is to work for a particular family but I believe that my duty is to work for the people. PM Modi has a clear vision to make India a developed country in the next 25 years."
Anil Antony has announced his resignation from his positions in KPCC Digital Media and AICC Social Media and Digital Communications Cell via a tweet. In his tweet, he mentioned receiving "intolerant calls" urging him to retract his tweet against a documentary, as well as facing a barrage of "hate and abuses" on Facebook on the same issue which led him to resign.
"I have resigned from my roles in@incindia@INCKerala. Intolerant calls to retract a tweet, by those fighting for free speech. I refused. @facebook wall of hate/abuses by ones supporting a trek to promote love! Hypocrisy thy name is! Life goes on. Redacted resignation letter below," Anil Antony tweeted.
In his resignation letter, Anil Antony said, "Considering the events from yesterday, I believe it would be appropriate for me to leave all my roles in the Congress -- as the Convener of KPCC Digital Media, and as the National Co-coordinator of AICC Social Media and Digital Communications Cell."
