Assam Rifles to move out of Aizawl in phased manner: Lt General Pradeep Chandran Nair
AIZAWL: Director General of Assam Rifles Lt General Pradeep Chandran Nair said the Assam Rifles battalion of Aizawl will be shifting to the newly constructed location at Zokhawsang in a phased manner.
General Nair, however, set conditions for relocation of the Assam Rifles to Zokhawsang on Monday, saying the shifting process would be undertaken after all the basic needs are provided by the state and all issues related to the land are sorted out by the state government.
The Assam Rifles DG's statement came after two days when Union home minister Amit Shah said in Aizawl that the Assam Rifles would be shifted within two to three months.
Shah, after inaugurating the new Assam Rifles Complex at Zokhawsang on Saturday, informed the leaders of the NGO Coordination Committee at Raj Bhavan in Aizawl that the Assam Rifles would shift to Zokhawsang within two to three months in accordance with the agreement inked with the state government.
Meanwhile, state home secretary H Lalengmawia told TOI that the state government has provided all the necessary basic requirements for the new complex of the Assam Rifles at Zokhawsang. "The state government has constructed the main road linking the complex and internal roads, while electricity supply and water supply have already been in place," Lalengmawia said.
