A bizarre incident has come to light from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district on Friday where an 18-year-old girl swallowed a mobile phone after a fight with her brother and was rushed to a hospital where she underwent two-hour emergency surgery to remove the device from her stomach.
According to reports, the girl got into a heated argument with her brother and in a fit of rage swallowed the small cell phone. She was rushed to the Jayarogya hospital in Gwalior where doctors conducted an extensive surgery to remove the device from her body.
A report quoted a doctor as saying that after swallowing the device, the girl complained of severe abdominal pain and experienced persistent vomiting, causing panic among the family who feared for her life and wasted no time in rushing her to the JAH hospital—a teaching hospital associated with the Gwalior Medical College—for medical attention.

Reports said that doctors at JAH were shocked to learn about the incident and after a thorough examination—including ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan—determined that the device cannot be removed from the patient’s body via less invasive method like endoscopy and laparoscopy, and required a surgical intervention.
They said that a team of experienced and skilled surgeons led by Head of Department, Dr Prashant Srivastava, unit in-charge Dr Prashant Pipariya, and, associate professor Dr Naveen Kushwaha conducted an extensive two-hour long surgery and managed to safely retrieve the phone from the girl’s stomach.
The girl received ten stitches in the surgery and is reportedly stable, Dr Kushwaha said, adding that she is currently under observation in post-op and will be discharged soon.
The veteran doctors told newsmen that during their decades long medical career, they’ve never encountered an unusual case like this but were thankful that the girl’s life was saved.
