Jaipur: Ten years after e-rickshaws hit Jaipur roads and five years after training schools for e-rickshaws were set up in the city, the regional transport office (RTO) of Jaipur started issuing permanent licences for e-rickshaw driver since February 2023.
Transport officials said currently around 42 e-rickshaw drivers have permanent driving licence. Most of the remaining drivers possess learner’s licence with a validity of six months.
“E-rickshaw first came to Jaipur in 2013 and in 2018, two training schools were set up in the city – one in Transport Nagar and the other on Delhi Road. However, it took time for the RTO to incorporate the e-rickshaw driver’s licence on their system. It was done only in January 2023 and since then, they started issuing permanent driving license,” said Narendrapal Singh, president of E-Rickshaw Welfare Association.
At these two training schools, the drivers undergo a 10-day training course before and get a learners’ license with a six-month validity.
“For the last five years, this validity was getting extended and now the RTO has started issuing permanent licences. Since the que is too long, it would take time to issue permanent licenses to all,” added Singh. tnn
