Samsung has just announced that it has signed a multi-year partnership extension deal with AMD to bring AMD Radeon graphics technology to more Exynos processors in the future. The company said in its press release that the two firms are working together to bring ultra-low-power AMD Radeon graphics solutions to Exynos processors for console-grade graphics on mobile devices. These GPUs will be powerful and power-efficient for immersive and long-lasting gaming sessions.
In late 2021, Samsung announced its partnership with AMD to bring the first smartphone processor with AMD Radeon graphics. In early 2022, the company unveiled the Exynos 2200 chipset that featured the AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse 920 GPU. The chipset was used in the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. However, its performance wasn’t as good as what consumers were expecting. It still lagged compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s Adreno 730 GPU in terms of raw performance. Hopefully, the two companies will be able to figure out a way to bring better GPU performance in the future with upcoming Exynos chips.
Samsung hasn’t given up on Exynos processors yet
It has been reported that AMD Radeon graphics (with Xclipse branding) will come to more affordable and mid-range Exynos processors in the future. The company might bring AMD GPU-powered Exynos chips to more Galaxy A, Galaxy F, and Galaxy M series smartphones as well as more affordable Galaxy Tab series devices. This announcement also shows that Samsung hasn’t given up on its Exynos processors yet.
