PUNE: The Manchar range forest officials trapped a fully grown male leopard in Pargaon village, Ambegaon tehsil, early on Tuesday morning, two days after the animal attacked a shepherd in the same village.
The forest officials had set up a trap cage about one km from the spot of the attack.
Range forest officer Smita Rajhans told TOI, "During a post-attack survey, we found pugmarks near the spot. We also analysed the sightings reported by the villagers. On the basis of these inputs, we placed a trap cage with a goat as bait on a farm on the night of April 2."
Rajhans added, "Usually, grown male leopards are familiar with the geography and active in catching prey. They avoid trap cages easily, but in this case, the leopard somehow got trapped."
A veterinary officer from the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre examined the animal.
"The animal is healthy and was a bit aggressive. After observing for a few days, the leopard will be released in the natural habitat," said another forest official.
Leopard attacks on shepherds have become an issue in the last two weeks in the Junnar division.
