Woman who tested positive for Covid dies in Coimbatore
A 55-year-old woman, who was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for lung cancer treatment and tested positive for Covid-19, died on Wednesday.
COIMBATORE/TIRUPUR: A 55-year-old woman, who was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for lung cancer treatment and tested positive for Covid-19, died on Wednesday.
A Nirmala, dean, CMCH, said the woman, a resident of Coimbatore city, was admitted to the hospital 15 days ago. “She developed symptoms of Covid and was tested positive for the infection. While she was provided treatment, she died today (Wednesday).”
This is the second Covid death to be reported in the western region of Tamil Nadu in the past two days. An 82-year-old man from Vellakovil in Tirupur district had succumbed to the infection on Monday.
A health official from Tirupur said the elderly person was admitted to KMCH in Coimbatore on Monday. “He was suffering from respiratory related problems and put on a ventilator. He was not vaccinated for Covid. He died the same day. After he tested positive, his 78-year-old wife was also tested positive for Covid. Their contacts have been traced and isolated.”
Coimbatore, meanwhile, reported 12 new cases of Covid on Wednesday, taking the tally of active cases to 92 in the district.
