HYDERABAD: The victims of QNet multi-level-marketing (MLM) fraud on Wednesday urged CM K Chandrasekhar Rao to set up a dedicated special investigation team (SIT) for financial frauds.
"As of today, investigation into financial frauds is done after the crime has been committed. Instead, there should be a permanent SIT which can act on information from whistle-blowers before the money is siphoned off," said Gurupreet Singh Anand, secretary, Financial Fraud Victims Welfare Association, at a press meet in the city on Wednesday.
He further urged the Telangana high court - which has taken up a suo motu PIL into the fire in Swapnalok Complex last month that killed six QNet workers - to include Enforcement Directorate in the case as it had raided QNet offices in Hyderabad and other cities over its ponzi schemes soon after the fire.
Referring to the police case over the fire deaths, Anand said that cops should file a murder case instead of booking them for 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder'.
The scam victims also urged the CM to remove
Sania Mirza as the brand ambassador of state since she had allegedly promoted QNet.
"They showed us pictures of various celebrities including Sania to prove their credibility. We fell into the trap believing that a big celebrity like Sania can't endorse something illegal and put our hard earned money into it. We urge the government to save thousands of youth, housewives, retired personnel from falling into this vicious trap," said a victim who lost Rs 10 lakh.
