On Wednesday, India has registered 4,435 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day jump since September 2022.
As per the data at 8 am today on the Union Heath Ministry’s website, six more fatalities due to the deadly viral infection were reported during the past 24 hours taking the overall death toll since the pandemic hit to 5,30,929 while the active cases jumped by 2,496 and the current caseload in the country stands at 25,587
According to the health ministry’s data, the active cases comprise 0.06 per cent of the total infections since the viral outbreak while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent with 2,826 people recovering from the contagious virus during the past 24 hours
The data stated that at 8,229 Kerala, which registered 1,404 new cases, has the most number of active cases, Maharashtra has 3,874 while Delhi has 1,795 coronavirus cases.

Himachal Pradesh has reported 212 new cases while 130 fresh infections were registered in Tamil Nadu.
The data also revealed that a total of 1.6 lakh Covid-19 tests were conducted during the past 24 hours.
Scientists have attributed the recent uptick in Covid-19 cases to the Omicron variant XBB.1.16 of the coronavirus diseases which is being closely monitored by the World Health Organization
On March 22, the WHO had added the XBB.1.16 to its list of variants under monitoring. The global body has said that the XBB.1.16 variant has a similar to its predecessor XBB.1.5, but contains additional changes in the spike protein, adding that lab studies have revealed that XBB.1.16 show signs of increased infectivity as well as potentially increased pathogenicity.

As per the data updated at 8 am on the health ministry’s website, 4,435 new Covid-19 cases were registered in the past 24 hours in the biggest single-day jump since September 25 last year, when a total of 4,777 were logged.
According to the Union health ministry’s data, with the new cases included, the total number of cases in India since the pandemic began has surged to 4.47 crore (4,47,33,719) while the death toll has mounted to 5,30,916 with 15 new fatalities.
The health ministry’s data stated that during the last 24 hours, four deaths were reported from Maharashtra; one fatality each was reported from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry and Rajasthan, while four deaths were reconciled by Kerala.
According to the data, the active cases now comprise 0.05 percent of total infections since the viral outbreak while the country’s Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.76 per cent.
The health ministry’s data also stated that with the inclusion of fresh cases, the daily positivity has risen to 3.38 percent while the weekly positivity was recorded at 2.79 percent, adding that the total number of people who have successfully recovered after contracting the contagious infection has surged to 4,41,79,712 and the case fatality rate is pegged at 1.19 per cent.

The data from the health ministry also states that 220.66 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
Meanwhile, the surge in deaths due to the H3N2 variant of the seasonal influenza virus is triggering an outbreak scare in the country.
According to official data, India has recorded at least three deaths associated with H3N2 this season.
Fearing the outbreak of another Covid-19 like pandemic, health officials have urged people to wear masks, practice hand hygiene and get a flu shot if they haven’t already. H3N2, is a subtype of the influenza A strain, responsible for one of the three respiratory pandemics in the past century.
The flu variant’s symptoms tend to be the same as other forms of influenza, including fever or feeling feverish, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults), among others.

The total number of active Covid-19 cases in India jumped to 18,389 on Sunday as the country logged 3,824 fresh cases of the dangerous coronavirus, highest in a single day in the past 184 days, as per the updated data on the Union Health Ministry’s website.
As per the data on the health ministry’s website, five more fatalities—one each from Delhi, Haryana, Kerala and Rajasthan and one was reconciled by Kerala—were reported during the past 24 hours as the death toll in the country mounted to 5,30,881 since the pandemic struck.
The health ministry’s data, which is updated at 8 am, also revealed that the total number of cases in the country since the Covid-19 outbreak has surged to 4.47 crore (4,47,22,605) with the inclusion of fresh infections in the past 24 hours.
According to the data, the current 18,389 active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections since the Covid-19 pandemic began. It also said that due to mounting number of cases, the daily positivity rate stood has surged to 2.87 percent while the weekly positivity rate is pegged at 2.24 percent.
The health ministry’s website states that the national COVID-19 recovery rate is recorded at 98.77 percent with the number of people who have recovered after contracting the deadly virus in India is 4,41,73,335, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

After two consecutive days of rise in daily Covid-19 cases, there is a slight dip in today’s cases in the country. India reported 2,994 Covid-19 cases and nine fatalities in the last 24 hours, as per the official data.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, the active cases in the country have reached 16,354 which comprises 0.04 percent of the total infections.
The official data also shows the daily positivity rate in the country was recorded at 2.09 percent and the weekly positivity at 2.03 percent. The national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 98.77 percent.
With 9 fatalities being added today to the death tally, the case fatality rate stands at 1.19 percent. Two deaths each were reported from Delhi, Karnataka and Punjab, one from Gujarat, and two were reconciled by Kerala.
Kerala recorded the highest number of Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, followed by Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.
