Recent rainy spell damaged crops on 2 lakh hectares in Gujarat
Crops in 2,785 villages of 64 talukas in 15 districts were affected by recent spell of unseasonal rain.
GANDHINAGAR: The state government said on Wednesday that the survey of crops damaged by the unseasonal rainfall last month has ended. Crops on 1,99,951 hectares were been damaged, the government said.
The work of surveying the loss to mango growers in Valsad district is still underway and will be completed in a few days, state government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel said. He added that crops on 42,210 hectares had suffered more than 33% damage.
Crops in 2,785 villages of 64 talukas in 15 districts were affected by recent spell of unseasonal rain. Patel said of the 42,210 hectares where crops have suffered damage of 33% or more, 30,895 hectares have farm crops, while 11,315 hectares have horticulture crops and fruit orchards.
The state government is expected to announce compensation for farmers who have suffered more than 33% of crop damage.
Patel also said the state government would provide at least one jetting machine in each district to ensure sanitation workers do not enter manholes. He added that the office of the rural development commissioner has already provided such machines to 20 districts.
