Carmel College organises ‘ECON’

The Department of Economics of Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, organised Econ 2023, an inter-collegiate festival of knowledge, creativity, zest, and humour. An impressive backdrop put up by the T.Y.B.A. students on the theme ‘Goan Enterprises of Yesteryears’ and their mesmerising dance performance on Goan songs set the tone for the event.

F.Y.B.A students also enthralled the audience with a musical performance. At the inaugural, college principal Sr. Maria Lizanne AC, appreciated the theme for its relevance, stating that the present is built on the past and that the younger generation must know about the enterprises of yesteryears.

A total of eight colleges competed in the various sub-events which aimed to take students to the roots of traditional and cultural livelihoods of Goa. In the on-stage competition ‘Eco Ventures-Then and Now’, competing teams showcased the transition of Goan traditional enterprises using costumes, tools, dialogues, and songs. The team from Fr. Agnel College was the winner of this sub-event. ‘Eco Connect’ another on-stage competition, highlighted the connection of the Mhadei river to Goa’s economy. Rosary College, Navelim emerged winner in this contest.

The off-stage competitions included one on games of yore where Don Bosco College, Panaji took the top spot. In another off-stage event, ‘Enterprisingly Goan’, the competing teams produced creative artwork displaying the use of coconut tree, bamboo, shells and clay. The team from Fr. Agnel College won this contest and also the Eco Treasure hunt.

At the valedictory, Fr. Agnel College, Pilar, was adjudged champion of ECON 2023 while Government College, Sanquelim bagged the runners-up trophy.
