MANGALURU: A scuffle between a man and his son over chicken curry led to a murder at Guthigaru village of Sullia taluk in Subrahmanya police station limits of Dakshina Kannada district.
The deceased has been identified as Shivarama, 35, a labourer. The accused – Sheenappa, 60 – has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Sources said the victim was known to pick a fight with family members in an inebriated state. According to a complaint by the victim’s wife Kavitha, around 12.15am Wednesday, Shivarama came home and asked his mother Tangamma for chicken curry which had been prepared the previous day.
On being told that there was no curry, Shivarama got annoyed and demanded he be given chicken curry that very moment. Police sources said that his family told Shivarama that if he had got a chicken, they would make curry immediately.
He hurriedly left home only to return within minutes and attempted to catch a chicken that was at their home. This reportedly angered his father, leading to an altercation. In the melee, his father allegedly picked a club and assaulted him. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead around 2.30am, according to police sources. tnn
