Macomb Twp. man accused of impersonating cop while pulling over a real one

A man from Macomb Township was arrested Monday night after impersonating a Detroit police officer and attempting to make a traffic stop, only to realize the woman in the vehicle was an off-duty cop from Waterford Township.

According to a news release, the man, who was later identified as Christian Katan Mansoor, 18, was charged with a misdemeanor of impersonating a public officer. He was arraigned in 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills and released on a $5,000 personal bond.

The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. Monday near M-59 and Crooks Road in Rochester Hills. Deputies were dispatched about a possible police impersonator after a report from an off-duty officer.

She said Mansoor was driving a silver BMW with flashing red and blue lights and positioned his vehicle behind hers to conduct a traffic stop.

Mansoor passed the off-duty officer near Hamlin and Dequindre Road, and she followed him. She identified herself as a police officer and Mansoor claimed to be a Detroit cop from the 12th precinct.

When asked to see his identification, Mansoor said he needed to retrieve it from his vehicle. He drove away and the off-duty officer followed him to a trailer park in Shelby Township, where she lost sight of the vehicle.

Deputies later found Mansoor and the vehicle, who was switching the license plate to a different BMW he owned. He was arrested shortly after fleeing on foot.
