In an official blog post, Google has implemented another measure toward Data Safety on the Play Store. Google announced that the app developers on the Play Store have to provide a data deletion option to the users to allow them to delete their accounts and data. This account and data deletion option should be available either within the app or outside of it, via the web.

Developers must comply with these Data Safety changes by May 31, 2024. By providing the option to delete accounts or data via the web, Google ensures that the data deletion isn’t limited to users who still have the app installed on their phones. Users who have uninstalled the app from their phone and no longer use it will also be able to use the Play Store data deletion feature.

App developers need to submit the new data deletion questions by December 7

Google Play Store data deletion policy

App developers are required to put a data deletion request form on the app’s Play Store listing page. Apart from this, in the official blog, Google also said that it is putting the data deletion information in a more critical location on the app’s Google Play Store page. There will be a new badge for the data deletion information inside the app’s data safety section.

Google notes that this Data Safety feature will empower users and give them better control over the data they share with the apps. The first step that Google is taking towards this process is asking developers to submit new data deletion questions in their app’s Data Safety form by December 7. Later next year, Google Play users will begin to see the changes in their app’s store listing, including the new data deletion badge.
