Maoist leader with ₹5L bounty arrested
Daltonganj: Pipra Tarn police on Wednesday arrested a Maoist leader who was part of the group that had an encounter with a combined police force in Grahe forest under the Lawalong police station area of Chatra district on April 3. Nand Kishore Yadav, 50, carries a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head. An Insaas rifle was also recovered from him. A village quack has also been nabbed during the operation.
Yadav hails from Panki in Palamu and has 13 cases lodged against him with the Panki police station.
Five Maoist cadres — two special area committee members and three sub-zonal commanders — were shot dead during the encounter on Monday. The deceased were identified as Gautam Paswan, a resident of Dumaria in Gaya of Bihar, and Ajeet Oraon alias Charlis of Balumath in Latehar, both special area committee members of the CPI (Maoist), and sub-zonal commanders Amar Ganjhu, Ajay Yadav and Sanjeet Bhuiyan. While Paswan and Charlis carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh each on their heads, the three sub-zonal commanders had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh each. The police team involved in the encounter recovered five guns — two AK 47 rifles, one Insas rifle and two other rifles — from the spot apart from the personal items of the ultras.
Palamu SP, Chandan Kumar Sinha, said OC Hira Lal Sah led the team that nabbed the Maoist. “Yadav was injured and a village quack had stitched his wounds. We have detained the quack too. He has been identified as Jagdish Yadav of Lawalong in Chatra district,” the SP said.
