JAMSHEDPUR: A stray dog was found nibbling at an unclaimed body in the government-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at the dal bhat kendra (affordable food outlet) near the ambulance parking lot inside the hospital. The security guards who saw the stray dog feasting on the dead body of a man in his fifties, chased away the dog and informed the officials about the incident. But, it took five hours for the officials to get the body removed from the site and shifted it to the morgue. "It is an unidentified dead body found lying at the dal bhat kendra counter (near the parking). How it reached the hospital premises is being looked into," said hospital deputy Superintendent Nakul Chaudhary.
Meanwhile, sources in the hospital have said the deceased man was often seen in the hospital premises. "How he died nobody knows, but, he was regularly seen in the hospital campus," said a security guard requesting anonymity.
Earlier, in 2018, two separate incidents of rodents feeding on bodies were reported in the hospital.
