The government of Maharashtra, India has formed a six-member committee to draft rules and regulations for app and web-based taxi service aggregators. This move is in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Aggregators Guidelines 2020 issued by the Union ministry for Road Transport and Highways, which has directed all states to implement the guidelines. The committee will be headed by Sudhirkumar Shrivastava (retd), an IAS officer, and has been given a deadline of three months to submit its report. The guidelines aim to regulate the operations of taxi service aggregators like Ola and Uber and ensure passenger safety. The committee will also look into issues such as fare regulation, driver training, and background checks for drivers. The move has been welcomed by industry experts who believe that standardization of regulations will benefit both customers and service providers. The guidelines are expected to ensure better service quality, passenger safety, and fair pricing for all stakeholders involved in the app-based taxi service industry.
