PUNE: The Kondhwa police on Thursday morning arrested a security guard with a furniture showroom on the charge of throttling a 25-year-old woman, her daughter (6) and son (4) to death sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday in her rented room at Pisoli and later setting the bodies ablaze.
The police have prima facie cited an illicit relationship as the motive behind the crime. “In his initial questioning, the guard, who is a cousin of the woman’s husband, all hailing from Ausa in Latur district, told police that the woman was insisting that he should marry her and he suspected her of having an affair with some other person. This was a cause of frequent quarrels between them,” said senior inspector Santosh Sonawane.
The triple murder came to light around 9pm on Wednesday when the locals spotted smoke billowing out of the woman's room. “The guard had run away after setting ablaze the bodies and locking the room from outside. The locals summoned the police who broke into the room and put off the blaze to recover the bodies, which were almost 80-90% burnt. The guard had used all the clothes, bedsheets and other household articles in the room to burn the bodies,” Sonawane said.
On Thursday evening, the police produced the arrested guard before a magisterial court in Pune cantonment which ordered his custodial remand till April 15.
