In February, Samsung introduced a new feature called Image Clipper with the Galaxy S23 series. It wasn’t confirmed then, but subsequent reports revealed that the feature would eventually make its way to other Samsung phones in the near future.
That seems to be happening now. The latest Galaxy S22 update that brings the April 2023 security patch also brings the Image Clipper feature from the Galaxy S23 series to last year’s flagship handsets.
Galaxy S23 Image Clipper feature arrives on the Galaxy S22 series
Image Clipper is a very cool feature that enables users to instantly crop objects from photos through the Gallery app. All they need to do is tap and hold on to the object they want to crop. They can then copy, share or save the crop as a separate image.
Samsung introduced this feature with the Galaxy S23 series that came with One UI 5.1 pre-installed, however, when One UI 5.1 was released for the Galaxy S22 this feature was missing. Evidently, Samsung wasn’t going to bring this feature through the major software update.
The company has instead relied on a minor monthly security patch update to quietly bring this feature to the Galaxy S22 series. There have also been multiple reports on Twitter from users who have updated their phones to the latest firmware that Image Clipper is now indeed available on the Galaxy S22 series.
Previous reports have suggested that the Image Clipper feature will also be available for the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 3 and 4 series, and the original Galaxy Z Flip. At this rate, we should expect these devices to get this feature sooner rather than later.
