12 years on, ATI Chowk road to be made at 99L
Ludhiana: The municipal corporation on Wednesday finally started the construction work at road connecting ATI Chowk to Dhuri railway crossing. The residents and commuters had long been demanding reconstruction at this stretch, and have many times raised this issue with the civic body as well.
Started at a cost of Rs 99 lakh, MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal and Ludhiana South MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu on Wednesday formally inaugurated the work here. The MC has also directed the officials to complete the work within a stipulated time period and keep a check on the quality of the material used.
The residents claimed this stretch was constructed some 12 years ago, and driving here was very difficult due to the potholes. Besides, only work at stretch from ATI Chowk to Dhuri railway crossing has been started at this road, and the second stretch from Dhuri crossing to Model Town Extension also lies in a dilapidated condition, and the civic body would take up that work once it completes this stretch.
This is an important road in the city as it is linked to areas like Model Town Extension and other internal localities. Besides, those living in Janta Nagar or near ATI Chowk also prefer this road to reach the bus stand, as they avoid the congested stretches like Gill Road and Gill Chowk flyover.
Meanwhile, the area residents have also demanded the construction of a railway over-bridge at Dhuri railway crossing.
