A physiotherapist at the state-run Sassoon General Hospital in Pune was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from a government employee for issuing a disability certificate.

The accused has been identified as Dr Pavan Bhila Shirsath (43), who is posted at the Department of Orthopaedics at the Sassoon General Hospital.

According to the information given by the Pune unit of the ACB, “The complainant in the case is a government servant and had submitted an application to the Sassoon General Hospital to issue him a disability certificate. The accused physiotherapist allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 on April 3, saying that the money will have to be given to the seniors at the hospital for the issuance of the certificate.”

The complainant subsequently approached the ACB and a probe was launched and the bribe demand was verified. On Thursday afternoon, Shirsath was placed under arrest at the hospital by the ACB sleuths after he was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.
