Mandya: A five-year-old elephant died due to electrocution at Lingapatna in Malavalli taluk on Tuesday. According to forest officials, three elephants had entered the village in search of water and came in contact with electric fences resulting in the death of an elephant while the other two narrowly escaped. On receiving the information, both the forest and police personnel arrived at the spot and conducted an investigation. Halagur Police have registered a case.
As per government reports, Karnataka has recorded a total of seven elephant deaths due to electrocution in 2021-22 with the total number of elephant deaths due to electrocution being 84 in India during 2021-22. In the last five years, India has recorded 348 elephants due to electrocution.
