In a shocking incident a man in Greater Noida allegedly killed his wife, stuffed her body in a sack filled with bricks, and then dumped it into the Yamuna River, police said on Tuesday.

A senior official said that the accused, identified as Shravan, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing his wife whom he suspected of having an extramarital affair.

The official said that Shravan and Usha—both in their mid 30s—resided in Chhatanga Khurd village in the Jewar police station area and on Monday, Shravan lodged a missing person’s report at the local police station claiming that his wife had gone missing, while on the same day, the deceased woman’s parents, who live in Aligarh, also lodged a complaint with the police wherein they alleged that Shravan had killed Usha.

He said that following the complaint by victim’s parents, Shravan was taken into custody for questioning and during investigation confessed to murdering his wife by strangling her to death on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

The accused told the police that he then stuffed the body in a sack and filled it with some bricks before dumping it in the Yamuna River.

On Shravan’s revelation, the police said a team of National Disaster Response Force and specialist divers from Meerut were engaged to fish out the woman’s body from the Yamuna River.

Giving details, the officer said that Shravan, who works as a daily wager, believed that his wife was having an affair with some person in their village and the couple would frequently get into fights because of that.

During further interrogation, Shravan told the police that he was finally fed up with his wife infidelity and wanted to rid himself off her and thus in a fit of rage killed her after a heated argument.

An official said the accused was arrested and a case against him under Indian Penal Code section 302 (murder) was registered at the Jewar police station on Tuesday, adding that further investigation is underway and more details are awaited.

The deceased was the brother of Colonel David S Nehemiah’s brother Lloyd. The incident took place on April 2 at Brindavan Estate, Vignan Nadar, reports said.

An argument took place between Lloyd and drunk techies who entered his house, dragged him to the road, and assaulted him. Reports said the accused men also assaulted Lloyd’s sister who tried to stop them.

Owing to his injuries, the 54-year-old Lloyd was rushed to Manipal Hospital where he passed away. The accused persons have been identified as Basudev Samanth Rai, Ram Samanth Rai, and Abhishek Singh and were arrested after the incident.

Another incident took place last week in Kerala wherein four cops were suspended for assaulting a serving army officer and his brother.

The incident occured on August 25 wherein an army soldier and his brother were beaten up by the Kerala Police in a falsely fabricated case. Following this, the Indian Army sought a report from the Chief Secretary and the Director of General of Police (DGP) about the matter.

Two terrorists belonging to the dreaded Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit reportedly escaped from police custody in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, police said.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the two LeT militants, identified as Maroof Nazir Soleh and Shahid Showkat Bala, who are accused in bombing a wine shop, escaped from a police station in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district in wee hours during Sehri time (pre-dawn meal during the month of Ramadhan).

In a statement, the Baramulla Police said the duo were involved in the bombing of a wine shop in the north Kashmir district’s Dewan Bagh area last year and had been in police custody since May 2022 when they were arrested as the prime accused in the blast case.

A senior police official said a massive cordon and search operation has been launched by police and the other armed forces in Baramulla and other parts of North Kashmir to nab the two Lashkar militants, adding that a case has been registered and its being investigated how the two dangerous terrorists made their escape from a heavily guarded police facility.

In related news, in March, a LeT operative was nabbed in Sopore area of Baramulla district along with a cache of arms and ammunition.

According to an official statement by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, a Lashkar terrorist, identified as Umer Bashir Bhat, was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police during a joint operation conducted with security forces in Sopore on Thursday, March 24.

An official had said that a joint cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched near Peth Seer railway station in Sopore by a team of Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the Indian Army (52RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (177 BN), following specific inputs about the movement of terrorists in the area.

He said that during searches, the suspect, Umer, was intercepted by a police party and tried to escape the scene. However, he was cornered and tactfully arrested by the joint party.

The accused Lashkar operative, Umer Bashir Bhat, a resident of Manz Seer area is linked with the proscribed terror outfit, police said, adding that a hand grenade, pistol, pistol magazine, 15 pistol live rounds and a mobile phone along with a SIM card were recovered from his possession.

They said that a case has been registered against the Lashkar terrorist under relevant sections of the law at Tarzoo police station, adding that further investigation is ongoing.
