GHAZIABAD: Sixty-six new Covid-19 cases were reported across Gautam Budh Nagar in the past 24 hours, the highest daily count in several months and a seven-fold jump from the nine cases reported a day ago.
District surveillance officer Dr Amit Kumar told TOI the department was taking measures to check the spread of Covid-19. Currently, there are 185 active cases in the district, he added.
Amid the rise in cases, district magistrate Manish Verma on Monday reviewed the pandemic situation and directed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for oxygen and hospital beds to meet any eventuality. While reviewing the Integrated Control Centre at HCL’s facility in Sector 60, Verma directed the administrative officials to strengthen mutual coordination in order to prevent the spread of infection.
“The health department officials were directed to make preparations for oxygen, hospital beds, medicines, ambulances, etc so that people do not face problems if the cases rise. They have also been told to increase testing of patients with symptoms of fever and flu,” he said.
Verma also asked officials to widely publicise the Covid-19 control room’s helpline number 18004192211 and asked them to ensure follow-up calls with the patients.
In neighbouring Ghaziabad, 14 new cases were reported on the day, which took the active cases in the district to 80. Of the 14 patients, eight are admitted to different hospitals, officials said.
The district has seen a steady rise in Covid-19 cases. In the first four days of April, the district reported 55 cases, while 133 cases were reported in March.
