Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the tourism sector has recovered, with 6.19 million foreign tourists visiting the nation, up from 2.74 million in 2020.

According to the Union Minister, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in 2021 was 1.52 million.
He stated that the hotel business occupancy rate in November 2022 was about 68 to 70 percent, matching the pre-pandemic level of 2019-20.

Mr. Reddy stated that the government is redesigning its Swadesh Darshan Plan with a tourism and destination-centric strategy. He stated that the Plan has selected 48 development sites spread across 27 states and Union Territories.
