Panaji: Taking a cue from the Centre, the Pramod Sawant government hiked the dearness allowance for government employees to 42% of their basic pay. The hike will be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1 with the arrears being paid out along with the salary for April.
The bonanza is applicable to state government employees, employees of Grant in Aid institutions (GAI) and aided schools.
“The new dearness allowance will be applicable from the month of April onwards. Arrears of the months from January to March will also be paid to the employees in April,” said the government order.
The bonanza is going to benefit around employees and pensioners on the state government payroll.
Earlier, a dearness allowance of 38% of basic pay was being paid out to government staff.
In March, the Centre had recently effected a similar hike in DA to its employees based on the percentage increase in 12 monthly average of All India Consumer Price Index for the period ending June, 2022.
