NEW DELHI: Emphasising India's vision of a closely connected world, bridging the gap between the global South and the global North, PM
Narendra Modi on Tuesday said New Delhi would use its G20 presidency and the leadership summit of these countries to initiate discussions on mainstreaming an integrated approach towards building disaster-resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
Speaking virtually at the 5th International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure here, Modi said the India-launched Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) was ready to serve as a bridge between the global South and the global North. "This year, India is also bringing the world together with its G20 presidency. The solutions explored here will receive attention at the highest level of global policymaking, an opportunity for CDRI to contribute to resilient infrastructure," Modi said.
The PM said advanced economies and developing nations, the global North and global South, had come together at this international conference, and stressed on the need to share resources with poor nations to better prepare for disaster risk mitigation for all. "Infrastructure is not only about returns but also about reach and resilience," the PM said. He said there was a need for a holistic view of infrastructure.
