THANE: A video has gone viral showing an unidentified suburban railway commuter being thrashed by fellow passengers at Diva station. Police said the incident occurred late evening on Monday, and they are now trying to locate the victim before registering a complaint.
It is learnt that the incident was reported when the 7.10pm Karjat local pulled into platform number 3 at Diva. A few commuters who wanted to alight at Diva got into an argument with the victim who wanted to travel further and was supposedly not ready to vacate the door space which led to the irate group pulling him off the coach and assaulting him on the station.
A police team patrolling the station reached the spot but the victim had left by then, an official from the Thane railway police told TOI on Tuesday. Activists say such fights over fellow passengers blocking access to train doors have become common in suburban locals and have demanded action. The Thane railway police had a few years ago started taking action on long distance passengers blocking access of train doors but suspended it later on.
