Thane: A fresh political slugfest began in the state after Uddhav Thackeray alleged that a 35-year-old woman activist of the
Shiv Sena (UBT) was assaulted by over 20 supporters of CM Eknath Shinde, including former Shiv Sena corporators, on Monday evening for putting up an "objectionable" post on social media against Shinde.
The CM-led Sena denied the attack and said their activists had only "peacefully advised" the woman against posting objectionable content against Shinde. Sena accused the Thackeray camp of resorting to such tactics to earn sympathy and malign Shinde's image.
The incident led to a sharp exchange of words. Uddhav, who visited Thane with wife Rashmi to see the woman, described CM Shinde as a "goonda minister" and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis as a "fadtoos" (worthless) home minister, inviting a retort from Fadnavis, who termed Thackeray a "weak CM" who had sacrificed ideology for power.
Meanwhile, following a complaint filed by a Shinde supporter on Tuesday, the Thane police booked the woman, identified as Roshani Shinde Pawar under Sections 153A, 500, 501 of the IPC for posting objectionable content online against the CM and his family on April 2. An application filed by Pawar on Monday demanding action against her alleged attackers was under scrutiny, the police said. tnn
