Following heavy traffic jams in the Mundhwa area for the last several months, the Pune city traffic control branch has announced a ban on heavy vehicles on two arterial roads during peak hours — 7 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 9 pm.
One of these roads connects ABC Farms, Tadigutta and Jahangir Chowk, while the other goes from ABC Farms to Keshavnagar Mundhwa Chowk.
The orders in this regard were issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar late on Tuesday night. The orders will not be applicable to heavy vehicles used for emergency services and those of the police forces, fire brigade and armed forces.
Over the last three months, the Pune City traffic police have banned heavy vehicles in several areas of the city. These bans are in force either during the entire daytime or during peak traffic hours.
These measures are among the several traffic changes brought to give citizens respite from heavy traffic jams across the city, which have worsened due to the ongoing work on Pune Metro and other infrastructure projects. Other traffic changes include imposing one-way traffic flow, demarcating no parking zones, creating circular one-way traffic, banning entry of vehicles from selected connecting to traffic junctions etc.
