Coimbatore: District superintendent of police V Badrinarayanan on Tuesday handed over 101 stolen mobile phones, which were recovered, to the original owners at the district police office.
The Coimbatore rural police have been maintaining a CSR (community service register) as hundreds of mobile phones are reported missing every month. SP Badrinarayanan formed a special team led by sub-inspector Afsal to collect CSRs relating to lost phones. The team used the IMEI numbers to trace the missing phones.
Addressing media persons, Badrinarayanan said the mobile phones traced by police were worth 20 lakh. “We recovered about 1,000 mobile phones worth 1.70 crore from April 2022–March 2023. We have also seized 386kg of drugs worth 94.59 lakh in the last three months and arrested 150 people across the state,” Badrinarayanan said.
He said 178 property theft offenders involved in 162 such cases were arrested, and stolen properties worth 1.81crore were recovered and handed over to victims in the last three months. “Forty cases were reported under the Pocso Act, and 47 accused were arrested under the Act,” he added.
