PATIALA: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday said that the ruling AAP had failed to get a candidate for the Jalandhar bypoll whereas Congress was going to rev-up the party campaign in the next two days.
Warring was in Patiala for the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Muhim’, a programme that was launched from Chandigarh with a Satyagrah on March 26. and followed by various party meetings and marches across the state. Before Patiala, the yatras were held in Amritsar and Jalandhar.
However, key Congress campaigner and former PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was nowhere to be seen at the event or press conference. Even at the time of Sidhu’s release on Saturday, the Patiala DCC office-bearers did not turn up to welcome him nor did Warring. Skirting queries regarding Sidhu’s absence, Warring wanted to know why the absence of other leaders was not questioned.
The PCC president slammed the Centre government for trying to stifle the freedom of the fourth pillar of democracy. “By thwarting the opposition parties from raising national issues in Parliament, which is the highest forum of discussion and debate on public issues and national policy, it is disrespecting the temple of democracy to fulfil its vicious motives,” he said.
Warring also accused the central government of “hoodwinking the citizens of the country” by failing to take action against Adani and “silencing the voice” of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
