On the other hand, Gland Pharma(down 1.26 per cent), Natco Pharma(down 0.52 per cent), Granules India(down 0.4 per cent) and Ipca Laboratories(down 0.01 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.94 per cent up at 12181.85.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 159.0 points at 17557.05, while the BSE Sensex stood up 582.87 points at 59689.31.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 0 ended in the green, while 0 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Bank of Baroda, Suzlon Energy and BHEL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of DRS Dilip Roadlines, Kirloskar Ind, Linc Pen Plast, Asian Hotels and Kamdhenu Ventures Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Ortel Communications, Nirman Agri Genetics, SCI, Goldstar Power and CMM Infraprojects Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
