GURDASPUR: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of
Punjab Police, who fled after allegedly shooting dead his wife, son and pet dog with his service revolver at his house in Bhumbli village of Punjab's Gurdaspur district on Tuesday, shot himself dead a few hours later.
The ASI, Bhupinder Singh, who was posted in Amritsar, had also taken hostage a 36-year-old woman residing nearby, who had reportedly gone to the cop's house on hearing a commotion.
A local claimed the tragedy was the fallout of a domestic dispute and mentioned that the ASI's elder son lived abroad.
Sources said police found the woman held hostage and were trying to convince the ASI to surrender when he shot himself. SSP Gurdaspur Harish Dayama said the ASI shot himself dead even as the police negotiations were on.
