Daily Covid count rises to 98, active cases 439 in Gurgaon
A total of 16 Covid patients are admitted to hospitals at present.
GURGAON: The city on Tuesday recorded 98 new Covid cases, taking the active case tally to 439. In just four days of April, it has reported 369 cases. In March, the city saw 584 new cases.
A total of 16 Covid patients are admitted to hospitals at present. The city’s positivity rate – the percentage of samples positive for Covid to the total samples tested – was 6.47% on Tuesday, from 6.04% the day before.
According to doctors treating Covid patients in the city, the clinical presentation remains mild in patients, and the disease is self-limiting. They have stressed on wearing masks in public places.
Dr Virender Yadav, the chief medical officer, said: “We are following the rules of three Ts — test, track and treat. It is important that everyone follow Covid protocol as the infection rate is rising. At present, 98% of the active cases are in home isolation. We are monitoring hospitalisation cases.”
Meanwhile, doctors also said the reported numbers may not be representative of the actual load as many patients are not getting tested for the virus despite having Covid-like symptoms. “We are getting three to four patients in the OPD daily. This is definitely a spike after a zero rate for a few months. We are witnessing mostly OPD visits while hospital admissions are sporadic. Overall, the situation doesn't seem alarming, but caution is needed. Masks must be worn, especially in public and crowded places,” said Dr Manoj Goel, director (pulmonology) at Fortis Hospital.
Dr Arunesh Kumar, senior consultant and head of pulmonology and respiratory medicine at Paras Hospital, said: “A couple of patients with moderate to severe Covid pneumonia are admitted to the hospital at present. Most patients see improvement with supportive treatment. But people need to be alert about this surge and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. Masking is very important. Isolate yourself if you have flu-like symptoms to prevent spreading the virus.”
Meanwhile, Haryana reported 193 new cases on Tuesday, taking the state’s count of active infections to 840. The positivity rate is 5.13%. On Tuesday, health authorities collected 4,864 samples for antigen and RT-PCR tests. Till now, around 10.5 lakh people have been diagnosed with Covid and 10,714 deaths have been linked to the infection in Haryana.
