Thiruvananthapuram: A fast-track special court on Tuesday sentenced a person to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for sexually assaulting a minor boy, who suffers from Autism.
Judge Aaj Sudarsan also said in his verdict that in default of the payment, the accused, has to undergo an additional life term for a year. He has also been ordered to pay the fine to the boy.
The incident took place on September 20, 2013, night when the boy went outside of his house to dump garbage. However, he did not disclose about the incident to his parents. Days later, doctors noticed something strange in his behaviour; and the boy disclosed about the incident during counselling. Following this, Vanchiyoor police registered a case and soon he was arrested.
On behalf of the prosecution, special public prosecutor R S Vijay Mohan appeared before the court. As many as 13 witnesses were deposed before the court during the trial of the case and also presented 17 documents and three material objects. During the trial, the accused had gone absconding, and was apprehended later. The case was investigated by the then sub-inspector of Vanchiyoor station B Madhusoodanan Nair.
