Man jumps off fifth floor of Coimbatore hospital, dies
COIMBATORE: A 37-year-old man died after he jumped off the fifth floor of a private hospital in Coimbatore in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased has been identified as T Pugazh Raja, 37, of Zahir Ammapalayam in Salem district.
Police said the man suffered severe head injuries after a truck hit his motorcycle at Kondalampatti in Salem city on March 19. He was rushed to a private hospital where first aid was given. He was referred to Kovai Medical Centre Hospital (KMCH) in Coimbatore.
He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital. After five days, he was shifted to a general ward on the fifth floor of the hospital building. His wife Sathya, 33 and a relative were staying in the hospital to take care of him.
Around 3 am on Monday, he opened the door of the hospital room and jumped down. He died on the spot. His wife and the relative woke up and searched for him. They found the dead body of Pugazh Raja and alerted the hospital management who informed Peelamedu police.
