Mumbai: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in one of its suggestions on ways of curbing pollution from the transport sector, has recommended that hybrid vehicles, apart from pure electric vehicles, should also be promoted.

"EVs should be aggressively promoted. However, till the time battery EVs take over, strong hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), that blend fuel and electric power, and are much more fuel-efficient, should be promoted," said National Green Tribunal in its March 27 order that pertains to permissibility of operation of hot-mix plants. It's one of the several recommendations made by the tribunal to curb pollution from the transport sector.

The tribunal has asked the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), all concerned ministries, departments, states and union territories (Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and West Bengal) and other stakeholders within three months for preparing a road map for implementation of the recommendations.
